This course aims to enhance participants’ observational skills and understanding of infant’s and young children’s emotional development based on a psychodynamic framework.

• Develop skills in baby and young child observation which can be applied to the early years
work setting.
• Gain an increased understanding of the factors which promote healthy emotional development in infants, pre-school age children and their families.
• Develop an understanding of the psychological problems which can affect this age group.
• Become more effective in applying therapeutic ideas in your professional role with infants and their families.
• Become more effective in communication with colleagues.
• Develop a career plan including the possibility of further professional training.
Is this course for you?
• You should be working in a professional context with infants and pre-school age children and their families, enabling you to bring appropriate case material to seminars and work discussion groups.
• Open to non-graduates with professional qualifications and experience in related fields.
• The course is a foundation for further clinical training in working with children and families if you wish to train as a child psychotherapist.
• This programme is also available in Bristol.

Two - three years, Wednesdays, a combination of day and evening seminars is possible.
Assessment
• Leads to eligibility for membership of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist Division.
