Course aims
• Develop a systematic understanding of the complexities of the various interconnecting contexts involved in the refugee situation.
• Meet challenges imposed by those wider societal parameters (changing legislation, political priorities, public opinion etc.) that affect refugees directly or indirectly.
• Conceptualise and formulate refugee related projects (for research and/or service purposes).
• Understand the theoretical, practical and experiential facets of conceptualising and working with refugees.
Is this course for you?
• Two modules are offered at the University of Essex and two at the Tavistock Clinic.
• Open to all professionals and non professional workers who are engaged in work with refugees in different capacities, from voluntary workers and social workers to managers and psychotherapists.
• This course can be combined with a PhD for students with suitable qualifications.
• Students are expected to undertake both a systematic observation of an organisation and a placement in a relevant institution/service.
Time commitment
One year. Wednesdays at the University of Essex and Thursdays at the Tavistock Clinic.
Assessment
Four essays plus a dissertation. MA degree from the University of Essex.
