MA in Social Work (M23)

This course is delivered jointly by UEL and the Tavistock Clinic. It is a unique social work qualifying programme which integrates theory and practice throughout the two years and includes regular attendance at the Tavistock Clinic on one day each week.

Course aims

• Become a qualified social worker.

• Acquire the knowledge and skills that equip you for social work.

• Undertake assessed social work practice under supervision and guidance.

• Demonstrate attainment of National Occupational Standards in assessed social work practice under supervision and guidance.

• Develop knowledge of theories that inform social work practice, human growth and development, including mental health and the law that is relevant to social work.

• Develop the ability to assess and analyse complex human situations, to evaluate theory and research and to apply the outcomes of research and to reflect on self, relationships and personal strengths and weaknesses.

• Develop the capacity to work therapeutically.

• Develop communication and interpersonal skills with social work service users.

• Develop an understanding of organisational processes.

Is this course for you?

• Intended for graduates in any discipline who are committed to a future career in social work.

• Candidates must have a First degree.

• Candidates also must have some experience of working within relevant settings.

Time commitment
Two years, full time.

Assessment
Assessment is by coursework
and practice assessment of two placements, one in each year.

• Leads to the award of the MA qualification as a social worker and eligibility for registration with the GSCC.
