Professional Doctorate in Systemic Psychotherapy (M10)

This doctorate programme offers systemic family psychotherapists the ability to pursue their clinical research interests in depth, enabling them to make original contributions to the knowledge of the field.

Course aims

  • Develop and enhance critical and analytical approaches to systemic clinical practice, theory and research doctorate level research skills.
  • Ability to make an original and scholarly research contribution to the field of systemic theory and systemic therapy.

Is this course for you?

Candidates who have previously completed Masters level or equivalent professional systemic/family psychotherapy training are eligible to apply.

Time commitment
Three years (minimum) - one year preparatory year. Thursday afternoons per fortnight. One day per week to carry out research work. Two additional full days.

Assessment
Preparatory year - assessed through Critique of Masters’ Research paper and research proposal. Doctorate is assessed through thesis (40,000-60,000 words) and viva.

  • Leads to eligibility membership of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists, Systemic Family Psychotherapist Division.
