Interdisciplinary Training in Adult Psychotherapy for Professional Workers in Health and Social Services (M1)

This is a multidisciplinary advanced training course in the application of psychoanalytic principles to a variety of clinical settings for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and nurses committed to the development of this work in the NHS and public sector.

This course provides

• A full professional training in adult work in the applications of psychoanalysis.

Option one - full time training salaried staff posts for psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and social workers at the Tavistock Clinic with rotations with other allied centres.

Option two - part-time training for nurses with appropriate appointments elsewhere.

Option three - part-time training for Tavistock Clinic trained qualified child psychotherapists who have a substantial current commitment in the public sector and at least two years post-qualification experience.

Option four - part-time training for Specialist Registrars training in forensic psychotherapy in post A of the Portman Clinic and Three Bridges scheme.

Option five - part-time training for suitably qualified and experienced BPS charted chartered, clinical, counselling or other applied psychologists.

• Professional Doctorate in Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (M1d).

• Following satisfactory completion of the first two years of training, members are eligible to apply.

Is this course for you?

• Psychiatrists - expected to have obtained membership of The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

• Clinical psychologists - required to be eligible for registration as a chartered clinical psychologist with the British Psychological Society and to have further experience in a relevant setting.

• Social workers - expected to be graduates with a professional qualification and/or to have further experience in a relevant setting.

• Nurses - will currently or prospectively hold a position that provides relevant professional practice.

• It is possible for suitably qualified professionals from overseas to be attached to the programme as Programme Associates on a fee paying basis for not less than one year and can progress to the position of Clinical Associate or a full M1 Course Associate (discussed at interview).

Time commitment
Option one - four years.
Options two, three, four and five - five years.

Assessment

The training leads to;

• Continuous assessment.

• Leads to eligibility for membership of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists, Adult Psychotherapist Division.

• Registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council.
