Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services need to be more accessible and acceptable to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities.
Current national policy for children, regards CAMHS as having a key role to play in reducing social exclusion and improving outcomes for all children, especially those most vulnerable. The National Service Framework for Children for example, states that staff working in child and adolescent mental health services should not only have the core competencies but should also have the necessary knowledge and skills to engage and work effectively with children, young people and families from black and minority ethnic groups.
