This course provides a professional training for students who wish to work as counsellors with children or young people in an educational setting.

Course aims
• To develop a new professional identity and role for students new to counselling.
• To develop the capacity and specialist professional skills necessary for psychodynamic counselling with children and young people in educational settings.
• To ensure systematic and comprehensive understanding of the relevant theoretical and research framework.
Is this course for you?
The course may be suitable for:
• Candidates who have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma/MA in Emotional Factors in Learning
and Teaching: Counselling Aspects in Education (D1).
• Candidates with an equivalent prior learning experience within the Tavistock portfolio.
• Candidates with an equivalent prior psychoanalytic learning experience from other institutions.
• Candidates with an adult counselling training but without prior training in counselling children and young people, and/or counsellors currently working in, or wishing to work in educational settings.
• Students own prior experience of working in educational settings is seen as a valuable part of the training.
Time commitment
Three years (MA). Two years minimum, six years maximum (Diploma). Two late afternoons/evenings per week.
Minimum supervised clinical hours:
200 (MA)
150 (Diploma)
Assessment
UEL/Tavistock Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Counselling in Educational Settings.
