This programme offers students from across the range of adult, child and adolescent health and social care disciplines - social work, nursing, education, medicine (and others) - the opportunity to study for a PhD. The emphasis of the programme is on individual research, but with structured support and teaching alongside other students.

Course aims
• The programme will enable you to register as an individual University of East London MPhil/PhD student, be based at the Tavistock Clinic and work with a peer group of other students also pursuing their research for a PhD.
Is this course for you?
• You must be a qualified professional working in the child and adolescent or adult mental health field, with a health, education or social care background.
• A good First degree is a minimum entry requirement.
• You must have the enthusiasm and ability to undertake an original programme of research, study independently and make good use of supervisory support.
• Applications form those practitioners working in multidisciplinary child and adolescent and adult mental health contexts are welcome.
Time commitment
Most students register part-time and complete their PhD within five years.
Assessment
Most students first register for an MPhil, then progress to PhD study after one or two years, following submission of a substantial report on their progress.
Final assessment is by viva voce examination, following submission of a thesis of c.80,000 words.
