There is a growing interest in psychodynamic work with people with a learning disability but few formal courses available to develop professional’s skills in this field. This course aims to bridge this gap and provide a learning forum for professionals who have some experience in the field and who wish to further their specialist skills.

Course aims
• Further your experience alongside other professionals in working with people with learning disabilities.
• Develop and increase your understanding of psychoanalytic ideas as applied to this client group.
• Enhance your clinical and observational skills through lively discussion of case material and facilitate the linking of theory
with practice.
• Have an increased understanding of the dynamics that interfere with development.
Is this course for you?
• Two years professional experience of work in the learning disability field will be required.
• You should be working with children, adolescents or adults with learning disabilities in a professional capacity in health, education, social services or the voluntary or private sectors.
• Applications are welcomed from those working in the field , including frontline workers such as care staff.
Time commitment
Friday afternoons, part-time. Biannual intake
Assessment
• Three written assignments per year.
• Students need to receive marks of 60% or above to proceed to the second year.
