Working with Refugee Families (D35)

This course is a continuing professional development opportunity for those working with refugees. The focus is on developing an understanding of the key psychosocial facets of the refugee predicament so that workers can introduce a therapeutic dimension in
their work with refugees.

Course aims

• Increase theoretical understanding of issues relating to the refugee condition.

• Understand the dynamics involved in working with refugees

• Grasp the interface between three levels (personal, organisational - systemic, and wider political and societal).

• Increase practical skills in working with refugees.

Is this course for you?

• Includes theoretical presentations and discussions as well as sharing of working experiences with refugees.

• Emphasis is given to the group learning of integrating theory and practice by reflecting on experience.

• Interdisciplinary.

• Does not constitute a professional training.

• Open to all professionals and non-professional workers who are engaged in work with refugees in different capacities, from voluntary workers and social workers to managers and psychotherapists.

Time commitment
5.00pm - 6.30pm, Thursdays. 10 weeks between October and December
