The ‘Difficult Patient’ Workshop (P15)

A workshop for experienced clinicians and therapists wishing to extend their understanding of working with complex clinical presentations.

Organising tutor
David Morgan

Course aims

• Look at the difficulties of clinical work with ‘difficult patients’.

• Use Kleinian and post-Kleinian theory to explore the concept of ‘impasse’. This was developed by Herbert Rosenfeld to describe problems that develop in the transference and counter-transference with patients who are perverse, psychotic, borderline, or who have a tendency to act out.

Is this course for you?

• Suitable for experienced clinicians working in the NHS, mental health, prisons and private practice who are experienced and/or trained in psychoanalytic theory or other settings.

• Preference will be given to BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) or UKCP accredited therapists, but other training may be acceptable.

• You need to be in, or have been in, personal analysis.

Time commitment
One year, Friday mornings.
