Each year we ask our students to contribute thoughts on their experience of learning at the Tavistock. Here’s what last year’s students had to say about some of our courses.
Postgraduate Certificate in Black Leadership in White Organisations (Ref. D66)
- This course has definitely increased my perception of 'self', the impact of internalised racism, and has enabled me to become a more effective leader from my perspective.
- It is a course for black leaders only yet it offers a wide range of perspectives from socio-political, psycho-analytical, group dynamics. It offers a safe space for black leaders to understand their role in white organisations and get support.
- The strength from this course is gaining theoretical understanding of organisational group behaviour - how I impact on others and how others impact on me - working in groups - recognising my leadership style and strengthened the authority from within.
Understanding Trauma: Principles and Practice (ref. D18)
- I've enjoyed the course much more than expected and it seems to have passed very quickly. It's been invaluable to meet with others doing similar work and has helped me express the feelings I have about working with trauma and rape in particular.

Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Psychoanalytic Observational Studies (Ref. M7)
- I'm a psychiatric nurse - the course has helped immensely.
- My dissertation has been about how psychoanalytic ideas can help teachers of attention seeking children. I was a head teacher and used my learning in very practical ways.
- The course has supported me in ways of communicating appropriately about the work that I do. It has increased my understanding of the context of the work.
- I manage a team of counsellors working in school. The course has enabled me to support them through thinking about the systems setting and the unconscious and its impact upon the therapeutic work.

- In the psychotherapy team at my place of work we regularly have case discussions. I present and incorporate ideas that I have learnt during seminars.
