October - December 2008
Fee: £90 per workshop (£225 for all 3)
Venue: Tavistock Centre, London
This series of three workshops will be led by members of the Fostering, Adoption and Kinship Care Service at the Tavistock Clinic. In our experience, children who have been separated from their biological families and who are living with adoptive parents or carers can show their distress in different ways.
We have found that carers and professionals who are responsible for them struggle to understand the different behaviours that these children present.
The topics for these workshops arose from our work with school staff, health visitors and carers who wanted to understand and find ways to help children to manage the difficulties that confront them in day to day life and which often separate them from their peers. We will present ideas that have come out of our clinical work and provide the space for participants to discuss the issues that arise for them in working with this group of children.
The workshops will provide an opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the effect of life experiences on the behaviours of looked after and adopted children and would be suitable for professionals working in social services, education, health or other settings, including those who support or vet carers as well as those who work directly with the children.
Workshops take place between 2pm and 5pm. Refreshments are provided.
