Psychodynamic Approaches to Working with Children, Adolescents and Families: A Workshop for Psychologists

June 2009
(dates to be confirmed)

Clinical trainings often only offer a very limited introduction to the application of a psychodynamic framework to work with children and adolescents.

This short course aims to provide a more detailed introduction to a psychodynamic framework for psychologists working with children and adolescents in CAMHS and educational settings as well as inpatient adolescent units. It will help participants integrate such a perspective with the demands and pressures of working in community settings where longer term work is often not possible.

Over the four days participants will be introduced to analytic perspectives on:

  • Therapeutic communication with children and young people
  • Working with under fives
  • Adolescent development
  • Family and parent work
  • Learning disabilities
  • Trauma and its impact on the mind
  • Working with looked after children and adolescents

At the end of the four days training there will be an opportunity to join an ongoing weekly case work discussion group.

Applications from clinical counselling and educational psychologists welcome.

Dates for 2009 will be advertised shortly.  If you are interested in participating and/or receiving further details, please contact:
