with looked-after children and young people
Edited by Julia Granville and Beth Miller
Price: £85 (incl p&p)
Care Stories features seven young people who describe their experiences in care in their own words. Their thought-provoking testimony raises issues of significance to all those working with looked-after children and adolescents, including identity, race and culture, foster carers, leaving care and trust.
These themes are explored and contextualised by an accompanying video and written material. Designed as a flexible teaching tool for group training and individual learning, Care Stories is suitable for use by a wide range of professionals and students, including social workers, mental health professionals, teachers, health and community workers.
It can also be used with foster carers and prospective carers.
DVD 1 contains the Care Stories film in which young people describe growing up in care. It is accompanied by Care Stories Considered, a film in which mental health specialists and social workers develop the themes raised.
DVD 2 consists of longer extracts from interviews of three of the young people who appear in Care Stories, allowing a more in-depth study.
The book focuses on relevant key topics written by professionals with extensive experience of working with looked-after children and adolescents. It also gives suggestions for training exercises and discussion points.
