The Tavistock Clinic and the Portman Clinic became an NHS Trust in 1994.
These are National Health Service outpatient clinics providing a range of mental health services for psychiatric, psychological, emotional and personality problems. Both clinics provide a range of services which include assessments and treatment for families, couples, and individuals across the lifespan. Although medication may be offered in some departments of the Tavistock Clinic, the primary method of help in the Trust is psychotherapeutic, based on talking and listening and understanding.
