Reading Lists and Electronic Study Packs

General Information

Your reading list and study pack can be accessed via Moodle on the Trust's website, go to www.tavi-port.org and click on the link to Moodle at the top of the page.

Study packs include digitized versions of up to twenty core references on your reading list, as well as links to other electronic versions where available.  Not all courses have opted to provide study packs.

If a reference in your study pack or reading list is available electronically we have made  a link to it from your reading list. Wherever possible we have made direct links to the journal article or book title via our full-text collections, if this has not been possible we have linked to the journal entry in the One-Stop-Shop for Journals, which provides links to all of the electronic journals that we subscribe to.  If there is no link to an electronic version, or if you would prefer to use a print copy, please check the Library Catalogue for availability.

Understanding the different types of links in your Reading List

 - Download Paper - This means that the paper is available as part of your study pack - click on the link and the paper should automatically open in Adobe Reader, or in a new browser window
Printing - use the Print icon from Adobe Reader, rather than the one from your browser - this icon will be the one closest to the document.

Available in PEP Archive
To access these papers
      • Click on the link
      • At the log in screen click on the Athens log in link
      • Enter your Athens username and password
You should now be redirected to the online citation and abstract of the papers that you selected, click on the HTML-Full Text link. If you manage to log in to PEP Archive but the link does not work try copying the entire url of the reference and pasting this into your browser.
Printing - Full text papers are not available as pdf’s (ie not a facsimile of the original publication) so any printouts will be as they appear on the screen. You will also find that this takes up a lot of paper, you can ask PEPWeb to give you an estimate of the number of pages (for example Freud's ‘Analysis of a Phobia in a Five-Year-Old Boy’ is 99 pages)

Available via EBSCO's Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection
To access these papers:
• Click on the link
• At the log in screen click on the Athens log in link
• Enter your Athens username and password
You should now be redirected to the online citation and abstract of the papers that you selected, click on the PDF-Full Text link.
If you manage to log in to Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection but the link does not work try copying the entire url of the reference and pasting this into your browser.

Available via the One-Stop-Shop
These articles are available the Library's One-Stop-Shop for Journals.  Click on the link to see where you can access the article.
If more than one provider is listed check the dates to make sure that the year that you need is covered.

Available via NetLibrary
Access our electronic books via NetLibrary. Click on Log In, then on the Athens Users log in link.
Once you have logged in to NetLibrary the contents of the book will be displayed, click on the chapter title to view it. Printing - use the printing functions in your browser, you can only print one page at a time from NetLibrary

FAQ's

I can’t open the reading list
Some browsers are set to automatically block pop-up windows, you should get a message telling you that this has happened and giving you an option to open the file. Check the settings on your browser, sometimes you can set it to allow pop-up windows from ‘safe’ sites which you can specify.

I can get to the reading list but I can’t download the article, I just get a blank screen
If you are not on Broadband the PDF may take some time to download, check at the bottom of the screen to see if there is a white PDF box, or a new browser window box flashing. If there is click onto it to open it up.

I can't download the references at all!
If there is an icon next to the reference but nothing happens when you click on it you may need to adjust the settings in Adobe Reader
* Open Adobe Reader
* From the menu bar at the top of the screen select Edit, then Preferences
* From the list of categories select Internet
* Untick the box next to Display PDF in browser
Close Acrobat Reader, you may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect

This reference doesn't have the Download Symbol
Because of the expense only twenty core references are digitised and some publishers refuse to allow their articles and book chapters to be made available digitally. Also we can’t include more than one chapter from a book or one article from a single journal issue in the pack. However in most cases you will find them in the library.

I can only get part of the document to print
Make sure that you use the print icon from Adobe Reader, rather than the one from your browser - this icon will be the one closest to the document.
