Systemic Psychotherapy Discipline Staff List

Systemic psychotherapy, also known as family therapy, has a long and rich history at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, first being established in the early 1970s. All of the members of the Systemic Psychotherapy Discipline are also members of their initial professional disciplines (i.e. psychology, social work and psychiatry) at the Tavistock Clinic. The systemic psychotherapy group is based in the Child and Family Directorate where we work with children and families, and provide consultation to parents, carers, professionals such as social workers and teachers and organisations. Systemic psychotherapy aims to work with families to help with a wide range of child and adult difficulties as well as relationship problems, such as longstanding conflict. Therapists aim to engage everyone who may be significant in the work, as different perspectives can be important to work towards change. This may include working with different combinations of family members and with individuals and as well as with other professionals.

The Systemic Psychotherapy Discipline provides an extensive range of trainings in systemic practice and psychotherapy. These range from introductory courses in which professionals are helped to apply systemic ideas to their professional tasks or in particular work settings, such as work with refugees, in primary care and with serious illness. We also offer an extensive training programme leading to the advanced clinical training as a systemic/family psychotherapist, and conduct further trainings in supervision and in a clinical research doctorate. Some regional trainings are also provided. We also tailor courses for particular professional groups or agencies. For further information please see the section on systemic trainings.
