A Joint Conference by the Tavistock Clinic and The Nurture Group Network
Friday 7 November 2008
Fee: £150 (£130 for The Nurture Group Network members)
Venue: Tavistock Centre
Much of the education policy and practice in the UK seems set in conflict with what we know children need to support their learning and growth, and with the well established principles for nurturing healthy development and stimulating positive attitudes to learning.
Jointly organised by the Tavistock Clinic and The Nurture Group Network, “Has Education Lost Its Way?” will explore the challenges of the title through a combination of keynote speakers and active workshops in which participants will be encouraged to reflect upon and discuss the issues raised.
During the conference there will opportunity to see the recent Teachers TV programme “Ready to Learn: The Experiment” which reports on an online experiment, involving over 78,000 children from 682 schools, examining the role that diet, exercise and sleep have on children’s readiness to learn. Sue Rendall and Sadegh Nashat, from the Tavistock Clinic, were the academic leads for this research and will be available to answer questions about the programme and the project.
This is a conference for educational psychologists, headteachers, SENCOs, teachers, learning mentors, learning support assistants, nurture group teachers and professionals working in child and adolescent mental health services, youth justice and social care.
