Experience

  • 1973 Retail sales assistant in interior design
  • 1977 East African sales representative, Tradeworth Limited, Nairobi, Kenya
  • 1979 Secured the agencies of a number of brewers, vintners and distillers in Sudan
  • 1980 Michael established Tradeworth's presence in Lagos, Nigeria; securing agencies and commercial backing from major European brands including ICI, Carnation Milk, The BBC, and Thames Television. By the time Michael left to return home in 1987, the company was turning over £25m per year
  • 1987 Michael joined Seventh Art Productions, a small independent TV Documentary production company; secured documentary commissions for international TV Documentaries from National Geographic, The Discovery Channel and Channel Four
  • 1991 freelance producer director; commissions included Channel Four’s first ever “Alternative Queens Speech” and CancerLinkTV, the first ever support and information series for people living with cancer.  Built bridges with the voluntary sector; which resulted in commissions for information films and video news releases
  • 1995 posted the first ever web sites of Shelter, NCVO, The UK Volunteer Centre, Sight Savers, Help the Aged, Action For Blind People, Arthritis Care, Dogs For The Disabled, The Association for the Prevention of Addiction and CancerLink
  • 1999 joined Hilite Limited, a business to consumer, direct marketing company, initially as a consultant, and was made Deputy Managing Director in 2000
  • Michael Whiteley is a service user at the Tavistock Clinic and feels that his family has greatly benefited from the intervention

    Qualifications

    • Member of The Institute of Direct Marketing; received the DM Business award for “Best Data Driven Marketing Solution” in 2002.
